Blogs and websites have joined the family in condemning the "voyeurism" and the family yesterday had threatened legal action against any media outlet that reprints images of the actor in death.
The picture reproduced in the Thai Rath regional paper was purportedly taken by the forensics team. Some discussion forums on the ethics of the publication of the image that "profoundly upset" Carradine's family, have also brushed it off as fake.Thai Rath, the country's top-selling newspaper, is known for its lively coverage of crime and celebrities. It did not give a source for the photograph and the face could not been seen.
"I cannot say anything about this photograph," said deputy Bangkok police chief, Lieutenant-General Amnoy Nimmino. "The media were not present at the crime scene and this picture was not leaked by the police."
He also told a news conference yesterday that the cause of Carradine's death would not be known until they had the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests in a month's time. He refused to give further details about their investigation into the 72-year-old actor's mysterious death, amid intense media speculation about causes ranging from suicide to murder via accidental autoerotic asphyxiation.
"We have to wait for the toxicology reports, the result of the autopsy and forensic evidence. We will know everything in one month," said Amnoy.
EX-WIFE HAD SAID HE WAS INTO "KINKY SEX"
Meanwhile, past history of the actor is also now being churned up with allegations that Carradine, who was found dead in his Bangkok hotel closet naked with ropes tied around his neck and genitals, was "into kinky sex". Thai police say he may have died from accidental suffocation.
Carradine's 'eccentric' sexual side was apparently the focus of a divorce filing by his ex-wife, Marina Anderson, which was made in Los Angeles Superior Court. She told the court that Carradine practiced "deviant sexual behaviour which was potentially deadly" and that the actor had an "incestuous relationship with a close family member."Shocked to hear about the nude death photos that were published of her ex-husband this weekend, Marina Anderson acknowledged to ABCNews.com that statements when she filed for divorce from the actor in 2003 were true -- that he engaged in deadly sex acts and incest throughout their marriage.
"The dynamics were pretty heavy," she said of her four-year marriage to the actor describing it as a "roller coaster. I don't want to get into it or I will get emotional."
Anderson, who is also an actress and artist who had been credited with resuscitating Carradine's film career. She had worked as Carradine's publicist and personal manager to get him cast in Quentin Tarrantino's 2003 film, "Kill Bill.".
"All I can say is he is my ex-husband and I was very attached to him, and I don't think this is the time to go into details. I want to talk nice about him," she said.
In 2003 court documents that were published on the website 'Smoking Gun', Anderson had her marriage to the former Kung Fu star left her suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder like a soldier returning from battle.
"I stand by what I said," Anderson told ABCNews.com. Her "pleas for him to get counseling in regards to this matter were ignored and he wanted no part in the healing process the other person needed in order to get closure."
Family and friends have said the actor likely did not commit suicide; Anderson agreed. "David was always happy when he worked," she said.
"HIS HANDS WERE IMMOBILISED"
Thai officials suspect Carradine who died on Thursday had engaged in auto-erotic asphyxia, a dangerous sex act that may have gone wrong. The Thai pathologist had said the location of the ropes suggested Carradine died while attempting it, cutting off oxygen to the brain to enhance sexual pleasure.
"If you hang yourself by the neck, you don't need so much pressure to kill yourself. Those who get highly sexually aroused tend to forget this fact," Pornthip Rojanasunand, director of Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science, was quoted as saying
However, Chuck Binder, Carradine's manager, indicated neither suicide nor accident was the likely cause since "the family has been told Carradine's hands were immobilised (behind his back) by the rope."
Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot his latest movie, 'Stretch', and had been known to join the film crew for dinner. The crew noticed his absence when going out to dinner on June 3, but assumed he was simply taking the night off. - Reuters/Agencies
